Key elements: Digital Technologies, Design and Technologies, PBL, Think-Make-Improve, various robotics equipment, BBC Micro:bit, Hummingbird robotics, KodeKLIX Stem in Practice, wearable technologies, conductive paint, drones, microcontroller development, materials.

Dr. Stager will model best practices for teaching coding, physical computing and computational thinking. Learn how a project-approach can serve a diverse student population while developing your own skills. This workshop will explore powerful ideas from computer science and engineering that may be employed in the solving of problems across the curriculum. Examples of how to engage children in complex problem solving using a variety of materials and new game-changing technologies will be demonstrated. The workshop includes a selection of software and hardware options, in addition to two focused programming and robotics engineering activities.

Engage with the BBC Micro:bit, Hummingbird Robotics and other low-cost "microcontroller development boards" that offer great potential for bringing making, tinkering, and engineering to life in any classroom.

Gain insight into how to plan engaging projects based on the Think-Make-Improve (TMI) design model – reflecting the expectations of both the WA Curriculum: Technologies subjects. Specific contents will be addressed for primary and secondary audiences.
